The Company

SolarWorld Industries GmbH is a German solar technology company headquartered in Bonn, with production facilities in Arnstadt,Thuringia, and Freiberg, Saxony, and with sales locations in Germany, Singapore and South Africa. SolarWorld is focused exclusively on the production and distribution of premium products based on monocrystalline PERC solar cells, such as bifacial glass-glass modules delivering power generation on both sides, and monofacial PERC modules.

Top quality – the benefit for our customers

Quality is our top priority at all stages of the value chain. For our customers, SolarWorld Quality means outstanding solar module longevity, maximum efficiency and therefore lower costs per kilowatt hour of electricity generated by the sun. At the location in Arnstadt, Thuringia, monofacial and bifacial solar cells are manufactured using PERC technology. Our premium solar modules are produced in Freiberg in one of the world's most modern solar module production facilities, with a capacity of up to 700 megawatts.

Continuous progress through our own research and development

Our own research and development department in Freiberg, Saxony, is the guarantee for the continuous transfer of performance and product improvements from the idea, to the pilot phase, to production. This means that our customers quickly benefit from innovations.

The SolarWorld factory in Freiberg

Our Freiberg plant has a long tradition. Wafers for the solar industry have been produced at our SolarWorld site in Saxony, near the state capital of Dresden, since 1994. Originally only a solar wafer production, beginning at the turn of the millennium, it was gradually expanded into a fully integrated photovoltaic production site including both the production of solar cells and modules. Today, we incorporate our 20 years of solar production experience into the manufacturing of high-efficiency solar modules.

Here, we manufacture both monofacial glass-film modules and innovative bifacial glass-glass products. Freiberg and solar production are no coincidence – they are a perfect fit. The founding fathers of the site already knew how to take advantage of this in the 1990s. Freiberg has been a traditional location for the semiconductor industry since the 1950s, and the TU Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBA) is the oldest mining research institution in the world. Today, TUBA has specialized as a resource university for the exploration, processing, refinement and reuse of raw materials. Due to its orientation, TUBA has been closely associated with our solar location from the very beginning. This is one of the reasons why, in addition to the production of solar modules, all of the research and development activities of SolarWorld Industries are concentrated at the Freiberg location.

The SolarWorld factory in Arnstadt

The SolarWorld factory in Arnstadt

Solar products have been manufactured in the Arnstadt plant since 2001. Today, we make wide-ranging use of the site's many years of extensive photovoltaic expertise to produce SolarWorld's high-performance solar cells.

At our high-tech production facility at the Erfurter Kreuz Industrial Park, we have specialized exclusively in the manufacture of high-performance monofacial and bifacial mono-PERC cells. Our modern complex in the Robert-Bosch-Straße offers a production capacity of up to 700 megawatts for manufacturing solar cells in a state-of-the-art factory. The focus of our solar cell production lies clearly on high-tech, particularly on high cell performance: The Arnstadt plant is one of the first solar production sites in the world to mass produce high-efficiency, high-performance PERC cells (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell).
