The SolarMaterial head office is on the site of the former Freiberg Zinkhütte, a former zinc smelter, which was completely renovated after 1990. Today, a variety of production centers of the photovoltaics industry have been opened on the site. Since it was founded in 2001, SolarMaterial, as a modern technology centre, has provided services completing the raw material cycle for all main materials used to produce PV modules. Comprehensive research ensures that our expertise in process development is continually expanded and new technologies are introduced. SolarMaterial specializes in reworking, cleaning, recycling and classifying silicon material from various sources.
SolarMaterial's other activities include surface treatment of wafers, cells and other silicon materials. This high quality treatment of silicon and photovoltaic products makes a significant contribution to guaranteeing a low-cost and resource-saving supply of raw materials. Partially or incorrectly processed solar cells can be reworked and returned to production. SolarMaterial runs a pilot system for recycling solar modules while retaining their value as a trans-industry solution.
