… and the solar power modules stand up to the test – SolarWorld advertises its Made in Germany quality
SolarWorld AG, the main manufacturer of solar technology in Europe, is putting the spotlight on the durability of its new Sunmodule Protect with a product video. This solar power module features extremely high resilience and durability thanks to the use of special glass on the front and rear of the module. These are important criteria, because the modules are designed to generate clean energy for years to come, rather than cause problems. For this reason, SolarWorld AG has extended the performance guarantee for the Sunmodule Protect glass-glass module to 30 years, offering one of the most comprehensive guarantee commitments in the industry.
The video clip shows the Sunmodule Protect being subjected to a wide range of stress tests. Strong gusts of wind tear at the module, hailstones beat down at speeds of up to 200 km/h, a BMX rider hops around on it, and an SUV is dropped onto four modules from a height of one meter: the SolarWorld modules can cope with anything!
Various media outlets such as The New York Times or pv magazine have criticized the solar modules' problems concerning increasing error rates and defects in recent months. In particular, the inexpensive imports of Asian manufacturers have been under attack. Another point of criticism has been the fact that even major module manufacturers are using cheap components lacking any type of certification. They also found other quality defects such as deteriorating plug connectors and bubbles forming on the rear of the modules after damp heat testing, as well as increased rates of degradation.
"At SolarWorld, the Made in Germany quality feature is important. If you invest in a solar power system, you need to have a guarantee that it will last for decades," explains Dr.-Ing. E. h. Frank Asbeck, when asked about the reasons for the campaign. "Our quality is the result of strict quality controls, years of experience, and intensive research and development. We want to make our customers aware of this, too."
The product video has been on the air as a TV ad in Germany since October 5. The extended version of the video clip is available at: www.solarworld.de.
