SolarWorld Receives German Sustainability Award in the Category 'Germany’s Most Sustainable Production 2008'

06-12-08v3

At the weekend SolarWorld AG was voted the most sustainable production in Germany from among 350 applicants by the jury of the German Sustainability Award under the auspices of Horst Köhler, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, SolarWorld AG was nominated among the top three candidates in the category 'Germany’s Most Sustainable Brand 2008'. 'Our objective is to build a sustainable SolarWorld in the strict sense of the word in which the economic, ecological, social and ethical aspects are on an equal footing', says Dipl.-Ing. Frank H. Asbeck, Chairman and CEO of SolarWorld AG. 'That is what we stand for with our name and work for on a daily basis in the expansion of our business.' With the award the jury pays tribute to the sustainable corporate model and the production of the group consistently oriented towards quality and efficiency criteria. SolarWorld integrates all stages of the solar power technology value chain from silicon as the raw material to complete solar power plants coming full circle by organizing the complete recycling of the spent modules. What was also emphasized was the sustainable involvement of the company for example in the support of hospitals and schools in Africa by providing them with solar power generating systems. Sustainability also with regard to management remuneration The principle of sustainability also applies to the continuity and the financial remuneration of the management of SolarWorld AG. Since the inception of the company 10 years ago the company founder, Frank Asbeck, has been the Chairman and CEO of SolarWorld. At his re-appointment for another five years effective 8 January 2009 his remuneration will be subject to a fixed upper limit. It will not be allowed to exceed twenty times the average salary within SolarWorld AG. 'Sustainability must also apply to the remuneration of the managers', is the rationale given by Frank Asbeck for the self-limitation now chosen at SolarWorld.
