SolarWorld Donates Solar Modules for Water Pumping Stations in Haiti - Clean drinking water for up to 175,000 earthquake victims21-01-10
The SolarWorld Group is donating solar modules for the power supply of water pumping stations in Haiti. These will be able to supply clean drinking water to up to 175,000 people in the region devastated by the earthquake. Within the framework of its Solar2World program, the German group supports development organizations with solar power systems that ensure the urgently needed supply of electricity independent of the power grid and fossil fuels.
For the installation in Haiti, SolarWorld is working with the non-profit organization Water Missions International (WMI). Before the earthquake disaster, WMI had ordered solar power plants for 25 pumping stations in Haiti from SolarWorld. A medical clinic in the Haitian city of Boucan-Carré had also been equipped with a solar power system. The station currently helps people affected by the natural disaster.
“This earthquake disaster, causing thousands of victims, has deeply affected me personally. Friends and acquaintances of our U.S. colleagues are among those unaccounted for. All our prayers are with them,” says Frank H. Asbeck, Chairman and CEO of SolarWorld AG. “Now we have to try to help on the spot.” Because of its production and distribution sites in the United States, SolarWorld AG can make available its products within the shortest possible time.
